What Don't Be Hangry Is.

Food is the oldest form of human communication. Every dish is a document. We're just here to read them.

Don't Be Hangry is a food journalism site that takes food seriously as a cultural object — without taking itself too seriously. We are interested in where dishes come from, what they say about the people who make them, how techniques travel across borders, and what gets lost and gained in the process.

We do not publish recipes. We are not a restaurant review site. We do not rank the "top 10 foods of [country]." We write about food the way serious publications write about art, architecture, and music — as a subject worthy of depth, context, and genuine curiosity — but with the understanding that food is also inherently joyful, communal, and occasionally ridiculous.

The name says it all: serious about the subject, light about the approach. Don't overthink your dinner. But do know where it came from.
